Uno studio dettagliato della costruzione di Tit 2:13 si trova in The Authorship of the Fourth Gospel and Other Critical Essays, di Ezra Abbot, Boston, 1888, pp. 439-457. A p. 452 di quest’opera si trovano i seguenti commenti: “Prendete un esempio dal Nuovo Testamento. In Matt. xxi. 12 leggiamo che Gesù ‘scacciò tutti quelli che vendevano e compravano nel tempio’, τοὺς πωλοῦντας καὶ ἀγοράζοντας [tous poloùntas kai agoràzontas].
Nessuno può ragionevolmente supporre che qui siano descritte le stesse persone nell’atto di vendere e di comprare contemporaneamente. In Marco le due categorie sono distinte dall’inserzione di τούς davanti ad ἀγοράζοντας; qui è tranquillamente lasciato all’intelligenza del lettore distinguerle.
Nel caso in questione [Tit 2:13], l’omissione dell’articolo davanti a σωτῆρος [sotèros] mi sembra non presenti difficoltà, non perché σωτῆρος sia sufficientemente determinato dall’aggiunta di ἡμῶν [hemòn] (Winer), poiché, dal momento che sia Dio che Cristo sono spesso chiamati “nostro Salvatore”, ἡ δόξα τοῦ μεγάλου θεοῦ καὶ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν [he dòxa tou megàlou Theoù kai sotèros hemòn], se stesse da solo, si intenderebbe nel modo più naturale come riferito a un solo soggetto, cioè Dio, il Padre; ma l’aggiunta di ’Ιησοῦ Χριστοῦ [Iesoù Christoù] a σωτῆρος ἡμῶν [sotèros hemòn] cambia interamente la cosa, limitando σωτῆρος ἡμῶν a una persona o essere che, secondo il consueto uso della lingua che fa Paolo, è distinto dalla persona o essere che egli designa come ὁ θεός [ho Theòs], di modo che non c’era bisogno della ripetizione dell’articolo per evitare ambiguità. Così in 2 Tess. i. 12, l’espressione κατὰ τὴν χάριν τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν καὶ κυρίου [katà ten chàrin tou Theoù hemòn kai kyrìou] sarebbe naturalmente intesa come riferita a un solo soggetto, e ci vorrebbe l’articolo davanti a κυρίου se se ne intendessero due; ma la semplice aggiunta di ’Ιησοῦ Χριστοῦ [Iesoù Christoù] a κυρίου [kyrìou] rende chiaro il riferimento ai due distinti soggetti senza l’inserzione dell’articolo”.
